Day 39, 9 August 2009, Kununurra

Dan gave up his Sunday to take us Edith Gorge, in El Questro National Park and to Wyndham.

Having studied Spanish in high school, I am confident when I tell you that 'El Questro' means 'The Questro'. (I have no idea what a 'Questro' is, however).

The walk to the falls was only a couple of kms. in each direction, but was uphill and was mostly hopping from rock to rock. The knees held up well, however.

At the top is a huge cavern, at the bottom of a spring fed falls. Dan tells us it's spectacular in the wet, but the dry was pretty nice too. The swimmers in our group (Pam and Dan) report the water temperature as 'f***ing invigorating'.

After a nice lunch at the kiosk in the National Park, Dan drove us up to Wyndham.

Wyndham's on the Cambridge Gulf and still operates as a seaport. Most of the other services that the town previously provided have been taken over by Kununurra, so sadly, Wyndham is dying. Businesses and houses are cheap, but maybe not a smart investment.

The view from the top, overlooking the Gulf is really impressive. We got back to Dan's just after dark.

I went back to Kununurra to get fuel and some stuff for a barbie. Dan cooked for us while Pam and I readied the car and caravan for an early (for us) start.

Before we left Tyers, Caroline (Dan's mother) instructed us to report on Dan's garden. Dan's got sprinklers that operate each day at 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM. There's grass and some small trees. We learned the hard way that the sprinklers make the clothesline less than useful.
