Day 78, 17 September 2009, Eucla to Ceduna

Left Eucla and crossed part of the treeless Nullarbor Plain. It's this stretch that gives the place its reputation, I think.
Stopped for fuel and a coffee at the Nullarbor Roadhouse. As we were walking back to the caravan, a dingo wandered between the petrol bowsers and followed some patrons back to their car, obviously looking for a handout. There are signs up warning people not to feed them.
"If you feed the dingos, they get tame. Then we shoot them." Clear message.
About 20 km. past the roadhouse, we turned off to the Head of the Bight. It was like walking into a travel documentary. I've seen so many postcards, calendars etc. that the sheer Bunda cliffs looked familiar. There were more whales cavorting at H.O.B. than in Sea World's strategic plan. The place was absolutely great. We saw mother whales, baby whales, teenage whales whacking their tails on the water, just for the fun of it and with it the almost constant trumpeting of whales exhaling.
A place absolutely not be missed. The rest of the day took us across the remainder of the Nullarbor to Ceduna. I had been to Ceduna in 2002 with Elizabeth to witness the solar eclipse.
The town hadn't changed much except, like most places in Australia, the house prices had an additional nought on the end. We've decided to go straight home, so we're planning to travel direct to Port Augusta, leaving Streaky Bay, Port Lincoln, Whyalla and the rest of the Eyre Peninsula for another trip.
