Stopped for a look at Coral Bay which is great, but very similar to Turquoise Bay.
On the road we saw a few emus, but lots and lots of feral goats. Goats were another not-very-good-idea introduced into Australia (like foxes, cane toads, blackberries, rabbits, rap music and personal injury lawyers).
Our caravan park was on the way into Carnarvon, so we set up the van and explored the town.
Had a ride on the mile long railroad that goes out onto the jetty. Actually, the jetty's only half-a-mile long as some moron's set fire to the middle of it about five years ago. A Scots couple riding the train with us related how they were in Carnarvon five years previously, rode the train and REPORTED THE FIRE. Great coincidence. We were pleased to hear the jetty's being repaired and will eventually return to it's previous mile-long glory.
Not far from the caravan park is the OTC facility with the big dish used during the Apollo Moon Landings. It's decommissioned now and abandoned, but a sign says that eventually it will be opened as a museum.
Had a really nice visit with Jackie Ward and her boyfriend Dan. It was great to catch up and hear their plans and experiences.
We noticed our neighbours behind looking up in a tree and after several minutes were were finally able to see the Tawney Frogmouths lurking there.
It was the first night for a long time that was cool enough to make us want to sit inside the van. It even rained. We're beneath the Tropic of Capricorn now, so I guess it will continue to get cooler.
Over The Counter...One True Church...Off-Track Carousing...place to clear equity derivatives...astronomical context ponder ponder...Overseas Telecommunications Commission, thank you honeysucklecreek.net. / On the road, hooray! Tropic of Capricorn, so excellent.
ReplyDeleteHave been enjoying your trip. Shortly you will be in some territory that I have been to. We got as far north as Nambung National Park and the Pinnacles on the bus trip to Perth long ago.
ReplyDeleteGees, Connie, your grasp of Austrylian is growing by leaps and bounds. Well done! Just as well you are computer literate.
ReplyDeleteI've taken Aussie 101 at Montgomery County Maryland College, Oliver, because my brother speaks so obscurely (to us over here). As for the computer, that's also thanks to Pat and Pam!
